In the wake of California's 2018 legalization of cannabis, a plethora of confusing rules and regulations impacted the market. A year on cultivators, producers, manufacturers and dispensaries have been scrambling to keep it all straight. Consumers have also been hit by sticker shock at the increased cost of legal cannabis compared to the black market. Troy Dayton, CEO of the Arcview Group, a cannabis investment and research firm based in Oakland, California, stated: "The whole California system for adult-use legalization implementation has been a mess. California is the first state where the total retail sales went down after they transitioned…

There is a high likelihood that cannabis could become legal at a Federal level before the end of 2019 according to Politico Magazine. The article published last week describes a scenario that takes into consideration the 2018 Farm Bill passed by congress and signed by Trump, New York State looking to legalize cannabis, smaller Northeast states like Rhode Island looking to legalize cannabis, and a new Attorney General nominee, William Barr, stating that he has no plans to pursue cannabis related activity in states where it’s already legal. Beyond that, writer James Higdon, in an interview with CBS news articulated…

Trump AG Pick To Allow Cannabis Companies That Comply with State Law

President Trump's new Attorney General nominee, William Bar, submitted a written brief clearly stating his intentions to NOT pursue legal action against individuals or firms in compliance with state marijuana laws. "As discussed at my hearing, I do not intend to go after parties who have complied with state law in reliance on the Cole Memorandum," he wrote, referring to Obama-era cannabis enforcement guidance that then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions rescinded last year. "I still believe that the legislative process, rather than administrative guidance, is ultimately the right way to resolve whether and how to legalize marijuana," he wrote in a…

Will France Be the Next to Legalize Weed?

France has been rocked with political division as of late, notably visible via the Yellow Vest protests that embroiled the country last December. French President Emmanuel Macron’s approval rating is struggling to adjust and his default position of representing the average Jacques is not resonating with the French masses. Despite its strict drug laws, France’s inherent culture has always been liberal — joie d’vivre, laissez-faire, moulin rouge — you get the picture. France is the land of love, poets, wine, cheese, sex and cigarettes. Enjoying a spliff on the Seine seems as natural as enjoying a lager in Germany. Of…
